“We are naturally driven by self-interest; it’s necessary to survive. But we need wise self-interest that is generous and cooperative, taking others’ interests into account,” writes the Dalai Lama.
No matter how we think life began we're all cousins.
Very healthy and effective advice. Professionals and organisations will win in increased quality of doing business. Internal and external relationships (teamwork vs CRM) will improve hugely. Relating to others depends on one's ability to connect. Connectivity is strongly associated with emotional ability. This is a brain system that needs training. This system is much faster than the rationality system. It can only be approached through 'experiencing, trial/error, feeling (the difference)'. In most the emotion system is 'on guard' and 'defensive'. That is not in line with connecting. Through carefully selected exercises you can 'practice' your connective ability using 'practical experience and expertise feedback'. In weeks you can notice the difference. If you want to change...DO...EXPERIENCE...LEARN.
Harvard always have that charming way to connect the best of different worlds . But reality , can be the opposite at some point. Why don't you HBR land on reality instead of??
Emotional intelligence becomes highly profitable when it becomes reflex action.
They wont! They have money and chairs to protect
Pure wisdom from the #dalailama
Agreed
Like communication is a two way process....interest should also be same. Self-interest (one way) results in imbalance and fails to accomplish its purpose....!!
